Arsenal learn how long Martin Odegaard will be missing for and it could have huge title race impact

 

Arsenal are set to take on Manchester City this weekend in the Premier League.

Arsenal have reportedly learnt the extent of Martin Odegaard’s injury ahead of their clash against Manchester City.

This Sunday, the Gunners will head to the Etihad Stadium to take on reigning Premier League champions City in what is billed as a mouth-watering clash.

During the international break, Arsenal skipper Odegaard suffered an ankle injury during Norway’s win over Austria.

The 25-year-old missed the North London derby last weekend and is likely to spend a few weeks on the sidelines.

As reported by The Mirror, Odegaard is set to be out for eight weeks in what will be a huge blow for the Gunners.

When asked about Odegaard on Friday afternoon, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: “We need to see the development in the next week or so, how the ankle reacts first of all and then the staff will give me an update on the timeframe and how long he’ll be out for.

“Not really [any fresh injuries]. Straight after the Atalanta match, we need to recover, sleep, eat well and everyone is looking forward to the match. We know what it means, we know what we’re fighting for and it’s a great opportunity for the team to show what we’re capable of.”

City themselves have been hit with a potential injury blow with Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne doubtful for the clash.

Speaking about the potential absence of De Bruyne, Arteta added: “They have the option if he doesn’t play of Gundogan, Bernardo, Phil Foden, Kovacic. They’re all world-class players.

“We have a few missing as well and we have to adapt, but certainly those kinds of teams don’t rely on one individual which is extremely important for them.”

Pep Guardiola said: “Kevin feels a little better, but not yet. Tomorrow we train and we will see.

“He could be involved.”

When asked about the Arsenal clash, Guardiola said: “Always been a tight game in the last years because they are good but we are good too. In many things, high pressing, transition, they are a complete team.

“That’s why they have been our biggest rivals in last two seasons. Early stage of the season so nothing more than mood and influence for next games.”
