How About June Mar Fajardo Shedding Tears? (NG)

Can you imagine a 6’9” hulking basketball player crying?

Well, June Mar Fajardo, Petron’s 6’9” rookie center said he’d really cry if and when the Boosters win a PBA championship this season.

Fajardo-David“Iiyak talaga ako pag nag champion kami,” Fajardo shared as his team currently enjoys a 3-1 start in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Maybe, he’s had some tears fall from his cheeks during the Philippine Cup after Petron’s turbulent conference, which saw his team fail to get past the quarterfinals.

But at this juncture, things are looking good for Fajardo’s Boosters after winning their last three games since dropping their conference-debut against the Globalport Batang Pier, 92-94.

Since that two-point loss, Petron has been on a roll, whipping defending champion San Mig Coffee, 98-73, followed by a 105-90 plastering of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, before squeaking past Meralco, 88-86 after squandering a 22-point lead at the final period.

Fajardo said it has been his personal mission as well to really be able to contribute big for the Boosters this conference, as evident in his numerous one-on-one tutoring he’s getting from teammate and two-time PBA MVP Danny Ildefonso.

“Nage-extra practice ako, kasi tinuturuan ako ni DI (Ildefonso’s initials). Saka gusto ko maranasan yung mag-champion kami ngayong taon. Kaya kailangan talaga mag-hard work at mag-tiyaga lang sa practice,” he added.

While Ildefonso is currently recovering from a surgery on his left shoulder, Fajardo thanks his second “coach” for patiently teaching him the finer points of a big man’s game.

The pride of the University of Cebu currently averages 11.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in four games with the Boosters this conference, numbers that could increase significantly as he gets more and more comfortable playing in the PBA.
