Tropical Storm Kristine: List of Donation Drives for Affected Communities (TR)

Bicol Region’s Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council sounded the alarm on Tuesday night, October 22, as tropical storm Kristine caused floods in Camarines Sur, Albay, and Naga City.

“Sa kasalukuyan, hindi na po kaya ng mga rescuers na tugunan ang mga panawagan ng saklolo sa nangyayaring malawakang pagbaha sa Bicol Region,” their message said. Meanwhile, residents, NGOs, and other sectors attempted to rescue people stranded on the roofs of their homes and other places amid the dark. Some locals say that though Bicolanos are no strangers to storms, they haven’t seen anything like this catastrophic since Super Typhoon Rosing (1995). Several towns at the foot of Mt. Mayon have also been destroyed by lahar.

Continuous rains also affected provinces and cities in CALABARZON and MIMAROPA; Bohol and Cebu in Central Visayas; Leyte and Samar provinces in Eastern Visayas; and other places passed through by the storm.

Today is a different day; but the rain hasn’t stopped, and more people are in need of rescue and relief.

As of 11 a.m., October 23, PAGASA said that Kristine “slightly accelerates while maintaining its strength of the sea east of Aurora.” The weather agency has issued warnings of heavy rainfall, severe winds, storm surge, and flooding. Classes, as well as government offices, in all of Luzon have been suspended.

Main photo: According to the Catubig Municipal Information Office in Samar, up to 27 barangays were affected by severe flooding after the Catubig River rose to 4.358 meters. More than 1,000 residents have been evacuated.
