The reason for the Aston Villa star’s ‘cold’ celebration has come out.

The reason why Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers copies Cole Palmer’s ‘cold’ goal celebration has finally been explained.

After falling behind to newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday, Rogers equalised for Aston Villa, allowing teammate Ollie Watkins to complete a first half comeback and go into the break 2-1 ahead.

Earlier in the matchweek, Palmer stole the show for Chelsea as he scored four goals in 41 minutes as his side beat an in-form Brighton side 4-2.

After both Rogers and Palmer’s goals, the two men reacted by rubbing their arms to show that they are cold under pressure and now, the reason why they share the same goal celebration has been revealed.

According to Rogers, the celebration was originally created by him while the two men played together at the Manchester City academy.

Speaking to after Villa’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea last season, Rogers was asked if Palmer had copied his celebration.

He said: “Yeah he definitely copied me. It’s my celebration. Check the timeline. I did it first

“He’s one of my closest friends, not just in football but in life generally. So to see him doing so well, couldn’t be more proud of him really.

“I think he’s now showing everyone what I and a lot of people knew he could do two or three years ago so it’s a pleasure to and now everyone can see it.”

But Palmer later insisted that despite the fact his close friend did it first, it is he who made it famous and therefore should be seen as his celebration.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the Chelsea star said: “We’ve had a chat about this, he knows that obviously I done it and it took off so it’s one of those things.

“Everyone knows it’s my celebration, he might have done it, but everybody knows.”

Rogers joined Aston Villa from championship club Middlesbrough in February 2024, signing a five-year deal with the Midlands club.

His goal on Sunday was his first of the 2024/2025 season, where he also has registered two assists.

Meanwhile Palmer has continued his electric form since joining Chelsea for £40 million in the summer of 2023, scoring six goals and assisting four in just six Premier League matches.
