Pep Guardiola’s contract at Manchester City is up in the summer and there has been an approach from England.

Pep Guardiola is set to make a decision on his Manchester City future after reportedly being contacted by England.

Guardiola is one of a number of names linked with the England post, along with the likes of Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Thomas Tuchel.

After Gareth Southgate stepped down following Euro 2024, former Under 21’s boss Lee Carsley is currently taking charge of the Three Lions on an interim basis and has two more fixtures remaining in his six-game stint.

The ex Everton boss has dropped multiple hints that he does not want the job on a full-time basis.

After the 3-1 win over Finland, when asked about the position, Carsley said the role “deserves a world class coach who has won trophies”.

Guardiola, with six Premier League titles to his name, more than fits the bill and a recent report from The Telegraph claims he has received an approach from the Football Association – as well as two other national teams.

With his contract running out at the end of the season, the Catalan’s future at City is uncertain – particularly after the news that his long-time friend and sporting director Txiki Begiristain will be stepping away and handing duties over to Sporting CP’s Hugo Viana at the end of the season.

Guardiola is interested in managing a national team and coaching at a World Cup, with an acceptance that he would likely have to take a lower salary.

He admirers the England national team and many of its players, some of which he has developed at City.

The 53-year-old hasn’t ruled out having formal conversations with the FA about becoming England boss, though he hasn’t set a deadline on when he will decide his future.

According to the report, the most likely scenario is that Guardiola extends with City for another year.

A one-year contract will see him complete a decade of service with City, a feat which he would welcome.

Guardiola was recently asked about his future and England links but remained coy, telling Italian TV show Che Tempo Che Fa: “I haven’t finished my career at Manchester City yet, I still have to think about it.

“It’s not true that I’ll be the England coach. I haven’t decided anything yet, if I had decided my future at Manchester City I would say so, anything can happen in life.”
