Man United fans can’t believe what Twente’s goalscorer said in damning post-match interview

Sam Lammers spoke to the media following his goal against Manchester United.

Twente goalscorer Sam Lammers left Manchester United fans in disbelief with what he said about his side’s draw in the Europa League.

Lammers pounced on a Christian Eriksen mistake before sweeping past Andre Onana to make it 1-1 at Old Trafford.

The fixture ended 1-1 and speaking after the result, Lammers said his team could have beaten Man United if they had played a little better.

“There was spaces in the counter-attack and if we played it a little bit better then we could have won,” he told TNT Sports.

“Of course, last 10 minutes it was a little but tricky. We had to stay back and defend the goal, but yeah there were definitely chances to also take the three points. Although we are very pleased with one point.”

The Dutch forward added: “We are a team that want to play with confidence, we want to play as well. We knew Manchester is a strong team so sometimes we had to drop back and wait for the counter-attack, and that’s what we did.

“That’s what we did, we waited for a mistake, and that’s how we scored the goal as well. We had two or three other moments where we could’ve scored but like I said, very pleased.”

Lammers’ post-match claim stunned fans on social media.

One X user wrote: “I can’t believe he’s standing there, saying these things, in Old Trafford. That wild ‘we could have won’ lol.”

A second tweeted: “United’s press is so disjointed that any team can easily find spaces to exploit. The distance between the midfield and defense line is so wide. But Ten hag just looks at stats that they are a high pressing team and stays content.”

A third added: “Everyone making mockery of Man United, I never experienced such when Ole Gunnar was our coach.”

Another commented: “These statements are becoming quite common. Teams should not be coming to Old Trafford and feeling they should have won. It used to be, “we survived the onslaught.”

Eriksen had opened the scoring in the first-half before Lammers equalised in the 68th minute.
