Arne Slot did not hold back.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot seems to have aimed a subtle gig at rivals Manchester United weeks after beating them 3-0.

Slot has impressed since joined Liverpool in July as the replacement for legendary manager Jurgen Klopp who departed at the end of last season.

The Dutch manager has led the Reds to victory in all but one of their matches across all competitions and is yet to see his side concede more than one goal in any game.

Perhaps his greatest win so far, was a dominating 3-0 victory over long-term rivals United, and weeks after the match took place, Slot appears to have aimed a sly dig at the rival club.

Ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League match against Serie A club Bologna on Wednesday, Slot spoke about his time at the club so far and the challenges he has faced in the English league.

He said: “Every fixture is difficult in the Premier league but everybody tells me that a top league table team is harder to beat than a bottom league table team… and we have not faced one of them yet”.

Of course, United are considered to be one of the ‘big six’ teams in the Premier League and therefore to many would be seen as a top league table team, despite their disappointing start to the season.

But not to Slot who, while likely being intentionally tongue-and-cheek, wanted to point out that his side are yet to face a team that is currently sitting any higher than 10th in the Premier League table.

Nottingham Forest, the only side to beat Liverpool so far this season, are the team currently occupying the 10th spot of the table, while United are sitting in 13th having won two matches, drawn one and lost three.

However, Slot’s comments are the least of United’s worries at the minute as, just four weeks after losing 3-0 at home to Liverpool, the Red Devils suffered a repeat defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

The embarrassing loss at the hands of another ‘big six’ rival has placed enormous pressure on United manager Erik ten Hag, who may now have just a few matches to save his job.
