Fans react as footage from Ruben Amorim's first training session at Man Utd emerges

Amorim has overseen his first training session as Manchester United head coach.

Ruben Amorim took charge of his first training session as Manchester United head coach on Monday morning – and the much-anticipated footage from Carrington has finally dropped.

The 39-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the most talented young coaches in world football, will be on the touchline for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Ipswich Town.

He will only get a handful of training sessions with his players ahead of kick-off but Amorim has “guaranteed” to give United fans an “idea” of what’s to come.

“You could like it or not, I don’t know, but you will see an idea [against Ipswich],” he explained in an interview with club media last week. “You will see a positioning. You will see something that we want to reach… that kind of level. You will feel that.”

Amorim added: “We have to know that it’s like two trainings before the first match. This is the best league in the world. But if I have to say something to you, [it’s that] you will see an idea. This I can guarantee.”

Amorim got to work on implementing that so-called ‘idea’ on Monday as 10 senior first-team players, including Kobbie Mainoo, Leny Yoro and Mason Mount, got the chance to impress in front of their new coach.

As anticipated, United’s club photographers were on hand to capture every moment of the session.

Amorim will get his first opportunity to work with the full squad after the players on international duty return later this week.

Speaking in his first interview, the former Sporting manager stressed the importance of having an identity.

“We know that we need time, but we have to win time. To win time is to win games. But the most important thing for me is identity,” he said.

“So since day one we will start with our identity. Of course we are going to prepare the games, but we will focus a lot in our game model. How to play, how to press, these small things, small details. You cannot go 100% on every detail because it will be confusing for the players.

“If I have to say one thing, my main goal, my first goal, is identity.”
