Manchester United fans have fumed over Erik ten Hag’s team selection for the trip to Fenerbahce this evening.

The Red Devils have travelled to Istanbul to play their third Europa League fixture, coming up against former manager and the man who led them to the trophy in 2017, Jose Mourinho.

United are still searching for their first win of the season in Europe after two draws and injury issues persist across their squad.

But with captain Bruno Fernandes suspended, Ten Hag named an extremely interesting and confusing line up for the clash. Although it has not been confirmed, it appears as though Noussair Mazraoui, a full-back by trade, is starting in an attacking midfield role position alongside Manuel Ugarte and Christian Eriksen.

After United released their XI, UEFA say they are adopting a 4-2-3-1 formation, with former Bayern Munich and Ajax man Mazraoui operating as a No.10. Rumours of the surprise call had been rife prior to the emergence of the team news.

Joshua Zirkzee leads the line, supported by Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho. For the hosts, former United pair Fred and Sofyan Amrabat both start.

But a big source of frustration amongst United supporters is the continued omission of Amad Diallo, who cannot seem to get a look in the side after a promising start to the season.

Many in the replies claimed it might be in his best interests to move on from United for the sake of his career.

One replied: “Mazraoui as a ’10’? Amad Diallo, my brother, pack your bags.”

A second said: “I feel for Amad Diallo… he deserves better.”

A third fumed: “Amad Diallo is smart, he doesn’t extend his contract. Meritocracy doesn’t exist at this football club. He won’t develop here, he will only stagnate. We’ve seen this movie with other young players.”

A fourth added: “Free Amad Diallo man. I been telling u man Erik Ten Hag don’t rate technical ballers like that.”
