An England player aimed a subtle dig at Thomas Tuchel.

An England player has already aimed a dig at Thomas Tuchel following his appointment and it could impact his international future.

Tuchel has been appointed England manager from January 1, 2025, having signed an 18-month contract.

He becomes the first German-born boss and just the third non-British manager after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Tuchel was presented to the media at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday as he fielded questions, including whether he’d sing ‘God Save The King’.

England fans already know the player he will recall to the squad when he names his squad.

Levi Colwill, who has four international caps at senior level, could also make his squad, having featured in recent Nations League clashes.

But an awkward reunion could be on the cards following Colwill’s thinly-veiled dig at Tuchel after his loan spell at Brighton.

Former Chelsea boss Tuchel sent Colwill out on loan as he enjoyed game-time at Brighton, making 17 league appearances.

And he delivered an emotional farewell message to Brighton, taking a swipe at Tuchel in the process.

He thanked the club for giving him the opportunity to play in the Premier League ‘when no one else did’ – a dig at Tuchel.

“To Brighton and Hove Albion. I am proud to have played a small part in the clubs success last season,” he wrote on social media.

“You gave me an opportunity to play in the Premier League when no one else did.

“I thank Graham Potter for first bringing me to the club and to all the employees at the stadium and training ground for making it a great place to perform and develop

“To the fans, you’ve always had my back! Since I got into the side, your continuous support made me feel comfortable to play the way I wanted to play and not fear about making mistakes.

“You gave me a platform to shine and show my ability in the best league of the world. I will never forget that you supported me.

“Lastly Roberto De Zerbi, you challenged me every day! You made me think and see football in a different way. I cannot thank you enough. Thank you again LC.”
