Manchester City fans finally have the answers.

David Ornstein has revealed details over the extent of Manchester City star Rodri’s injury and confirmed how long the midfielder is expected to be out.

The Spaniard was forced to withdraw from City’s season-defining match with Arsenal at the Etihad in the 22nd minute after a clash with Thomas Partey left him writhing in pain on the ground.

Initially, the extent of the 28-year-old’s injury was not known, with outlets in the Spanish media producing conflicting reports.

But now, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has confirmed the details of their star midfielder’s injury and how long City expect it will take for him to return to the pitch.

Ornstein, football correspondent for The Athletic, confirmed the details of the injury, writing: “Rodri is set to be ruled out for a significant period of time after suffering a serious knee injury in the Premier League draw with Arsenal and there are fears he may not return this season.”

He continued to explain that the midfielder is set to undergo further tests in Spain to confirm the news, but initial tests with City appear to have confirmed a serious injury.

Sunday’s match was Rodri’s first start of the season as City manager Pep Guardiola hoped to ease his star midfielder into the season after he played a pivotal role in Spain’s victory at the 2024 European Championships.

The midfielder was replaced at half time during his team’s victory over England during the Euros final after suffering a hamstring injury and only returned to training days before the start of the Premier League season.

Concerns over the injury started almost immediately as Rodri looked to be in significant pain and required instant treatment on the pitch before he signalled to the bench that he could not continue and was replaced by Mateo Kovacic.

Speaking during his post-match press conference about the injury, City manager Guardiola said: “Rodri is a strong man! “He left the pitch in this action because he felt something. Otherwise, Rodri stays there.

“Rodri is a vocal guy, has presence… He’s the best holding midfielder in the world, a potential Ballon d’Or winner, I would love it. He’s important. But it’s happened.”
