City fans are eagerly awaiting news on Rodri’s injury.

Spanish media have confirmed a major update regarding Manchester City midfielder Rodri’s injury.

After just 22 minutes of the season-defining match between City and Arsenal at the Etihad stadium, Pep Guardiola was forced to replace key player Rodri who went down injured.

The Spaniard appeared to hurt his right knee when clashing with Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey in the box, and required two members of City’s coaching staff to help him come off.

Rodri’s injury immediately caused concerns for City fans who were eager to know the extent of the midfielder’s injury, and now it appears Spanish media have finally given the answer.

According to Spanish outlet El Larguero, first tests conducted by Manchester City on Sunday night have ruled out any ‘serious’ injury for the 28-year-old.

The report continues to explain that City are awaiting the results of further tests on Monday to determine how long they can expect to be without their star player.

Meanwhile the outlet has described Rodri as ‘more optimistic’ regarding his return than he was immediately after the game with Arsenal.

However, a later report from fellow Spanish outlet Marca seemed to completely contradict El Larguero, as they have instead reported the worst possible news for City fans and Rodri.

According to their sources, Rodri’s initial tests in Manchester indicate that he has suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee, although a definitive diagnosis will not be issued until later today.

They continue to state that the midfielder has travelled to Madrid for further examination and will visit specialists about potentially undergoing surgery.

If the cruciate ligament tear is confirmed, the Rodri would be out for the rest of the season.

Concerns over the injury started almost immediately as Rodri looked in significant pain and required instant treatment on the pitch before he signalled to the bench that he could not continue and was replaced by Mateo Kovacic.

Speaking during his post-match press conference about the injury, City manager Guardiola said: “Rodri is a strong man! “He left the pitch in this action because he felt something. Otherwise, Rodri stays there.

“Rodri is a vocal guy, has presence… He’s the best holding midfielder in the world, a potential Ballon d’Or winner, I would love it. He’s important. But it’s happened.”
