Did Alyssa Valdez ever contemplate retiring from volleyball?

Alyssa Valdez admitted that retirement is something that has crossed her mind.

“I’d say it crossed my mind in such a way that at this age you have to plan naman kasi talaga. But hindi na rin siya naman nalalayo kasi,” she said in an interview with the Bilyonaryo News Channel.

She added: “If you’re gonna ask me if retirement crossed my mind, definitely. Because at the end of the day I have to plan for my future as well.”

But the 31-year-old athlete believes that there is still a long journey ahead for her in volleyball saying: “Medyo marami pa rin akong kailangan matutunan eh.”

When asked where she sees herself six years from now, Alyssa replied: “I’d say I wanna see myself still playing, enjoying. The keyword is enjoying volleyball, may it be on or off the court.”

In the same interview, Alyssa also got candid about her realizations after experiencing injuries.

“With all the injuries I had recently, I’ve realized na I think I want to get back that feeling na nagi-enjoy ulit ako sa paglalaro kasi it’s been so different now,” she confessed.

The volleyball player further explained: “I mean from high school to college, volleyball for me is my outlet. When you turn pro kasi there are different responsibilities na kasama, so right now I think one thing I’ve realized after my injury is that I think I just want to get back that feeling again na I enjoy playing the sport.”

The athlete remarked that she wants to get back “a hundred percent and contribute in any way I can to the team. So ‘yun lang ‘yung mga goals ko right now.”

Alyssa currently plays for the Creamline Cool Smashers.

The athlete was also asked about how she manages her earnings from her volleyball career. Alyssa shared that she has been investing it on real estate.

“Properties, real estate talaga. Something na kahit bata pa lang kami iyon ‘yung kailangan din talaga,” she relayed.

Alyssa added: “Kasi as of now at a young age sometimes you still don’t know what you want and ayaw mo rin naman na naka-park lang ‘yung money mo so I think investing it in real estate would really help you realize kung ano ‘yung mga next steps mo in your life.”
