A new favourite to become the next England manager has emerged after the Three Lions’ defeat against Greece.

On Thursday night, interim boss Lee Carsley suffered his first defeat at the helm after England were beaten by Greece in the UEFA Nations League at Wembley.

Vangelis Pavlidis scored twice to seal a 2-1 win for the visitors with Jude Bellingham scoring for England.

Despite being one of the frontrunners to get the job on a permanent basis, Carsley said after the match: “I was quite surprised after the last came when it was ‘the job’s mine and mine to lose’.

“My remit has been clear from the start. I’m doing three camps, there’s three games left and then hopefully I’ll be going back to the Under 21’s. I said at the start I wouldn’t rule myself in or out and that’s still the case – I’m more than comfortable in my position.”

On the back of Carsley’s latest comments, a new favourite has emerged to become the next permanent England manager.

According to , former Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel has become the 11/10 favourite to take over the Three Lions.

Tuchel is followed by Carsley(2/1), Pep Guardiola(5/1), Graham Potter(7/1), Eddie Howe(9/1) and Frank Lampard(20/1). Odds were correct at the time of writing.

The likes of Kieran McKenna, Michael Carrick, Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti have also been tipped to get the job.

Commenting about the Greece defeat, Carsley said: “I didn’t think we started the game great. I thought we were second best. We tried something different with the formation. We never gave ourselves a chance to see if it was the right decision or wrong.

“I think with the players we’ve got we’ve got to be courageous at times with our systems and be creative. I could have easily gone with a nine – we had two on the bench. I’m happy to take the blame. It was totally my idea. It didn’t come off tonight. It was a case of being a little bit creative.”

He continued: “We tried something different, we tried to overload the midfield, play a little bit differently. It’s something we tried for 20 minutes yesterday, it’s something we experimented with and it was disappointing that it didn’t come off. But I think it was probably unrealistic to expect too much and I think it’s a case of trying again.”
