Markki Stroem on getting hate for Mister Universe introduction blunder: ‘Let’s try to spread kindness’
Mister Universe Philippines Markki Stroem broke his silence once more on social media and asked netizens to spread positivity and kindness this festive season. The singer-actor expressed his thoughts on his Instagram account earlier this week following his Mister Universe stint.
Markki received several remarks for his incorrect introduction of the Philippines during one of the portions of the Mister Universe competition. Instead of saying “Pearl of the Orient,” he mistakenly shouted “The Land of the Rising Sun” which is meant for Japan.
The Mister Universe fourth runner-up shared that being up on the stage is a lot different as he didn’t only represent himself but a whole nation, the Philippines.
“Let’s try our best to spread kindness, knowing I made a mistake is something that I own up to, and repent for. There is so much anxiety that comes from having to be on stage to represent a whole nation,” he shared.
Markki maintained that he is satisfied with his experience in the prestigious pageant even if he didn’t win the much-coveted title of Mister Universe.
He reminded everyone to be kinder and use words that would have a better impact to the world rather than spreading negativity on things that couldn’t be changed anymore.
“This Christmas, let’s try to spread kindness, create that ripple effect that we want the world to feel. Let us choose love,” he ended.
Fans and supporters of Markki rallied behind him in the comment section of his post. Other netizens continued to applaud him for representing the country well despite the mishap that happened.
It was Ireland’s Patrick Callahan that went home with the Mister Universe title. He will be serving as an ambassador of goodwill in various international events and will be engaging in charitable activities.
