We all know that there’s more to relationships than what you see on Instagram. But sometimes, it might just give a hint. The Internet thinks it’s really over between Paolo Contis and Yen Santos after their low-key yet controversial romance. And it’s all because Paolo unfollowed Yen on IG.

For some time now, Paolo only followed one account on Instagram: Yen’s. So it was pretty easy to notice when Paolo’s following went down to zero. People quickly concluded that they were no longer together—though breakup rumors had already began to spread weeks ahead of Paolo’s unfollowing stint.

And now, as of June 21, 2024, the actor just went private on his Instagram account. And we can see that he’s still not following anyone on IG.

Despite all the intrigue now hounding their relationship, Paolo is still keeping mum about it. Meanwhile, Yen has been quiet and out of the showbiz scene for some time now.

For Paolo, unfollowing people on Instagram shouldn’t be an issue, adding that he can’t understand why people are making it a big deal these days. He added that he uses Instagram now only to promote his projects and endorsements.

The actor wanted to keep his personal life off from IG now. “Katulad nga ng sinabi ko, pang-promote na lang. Anything personal, wala na. ‘Yun lang,” he told PEP.ph. Paolo then avoided more questions about Yen.

Paolo and Yen’s love story started with a project. In case you need a reminder: the two first met and formed a friendship when they filmed for a Netflix film called “A Faraway Land.” It was their first film together as lead stars. It was released in August 2021.

September 2021: Paolo and Yen’s viral Baguio Escapade

Around this time, the world was still moving on from the heartbreaks of the pandemic. But in Paolo’s case, people thought he immediately moved on from his past relationship as he was spotted together with Yen on a trip.

The two were seen having their alone time on a quick side trip to Manaog, Pangasinan, before they reached their destination, Baguio City. What made it more interesting to the Internet was Paolo’s statement saying that Yen was only his friend, clarifying that Yen is not the third party in his former relationship with LJ.

In a social media post uploaded September 2021, Paolo wrote: “She [Yen] was never the reason of our break up. I was. Kung matagal na kaming hindi okay ni LJ, it was mainly because of me. Masyado niyo siyang diniin sa issue na ‘to. Pati pag-promote namin ng movie nabahiran na ng kung anu-ano.”

Life goes on, they say. So, going past the controversies, Paolo and Yen continued to become closer to each other.

Just less than three months after their viral trip photos made headlines, the two posted similar pics of a birthday celebration by the beach. Paolo even captioned his IG story with, “Dinner time,” and included birthday cake emojis.

January 2022: Yen’s rumored pregnancy

With people thinking that Yen and Paolo are already a thing, the Internet couldn’t help but put some focus on their romance. Yen, who made headlines for her controversial involvement with Paolo, was rumored to be pregnant in January 2022.

This time, photos of them going on a trip to Boracay went viral. It was showbiz columnist Ogie Diaz who aired Paolo’s clarification regarding the rumors. Ogie reports in a vlog, “Yung tungkol doon sa kung buntis ba si Yen Santos, as per Paolo, hindi buntis si Yen Santos. Ang payat nga raw ni Yen Santos. Ang nakunan daw ay ‘yung paglipad ng damit ni Yen Santos kaya nagmukha siyang mataba kasi ang hangin that time.”

January 2023: The dating confirmation

Some things just take time to reveal themselves. Case in point: Paolo admits his romantic connection to Yen. He revealed everything in a sit-down interview with Boy Abunda. At the time, Paolo brushes off critics, arguing that they can’t really please everyone.

He said in the interview, “Sa amin kasi, kumbaga, what you see is what you get na naman, di ba? Hindi na namin puwedeng ipilit yung tao to be happy for us. Hindi namin puwede ipilit yung mga tao na paniwalaan yung gusto nilang paniwalaan. Sana isipin lang nila na kung ano lang yung nakikita nila na naka-post, yun lang yung truth na alam nila.”

June 2023: Paolo reacts to wedding plans with Yen.

The two were also not exempt from questions about their wedding plans. As much as they wanted to keep their relationship matters private, Paolo still responded to pressing queries about their future as a couple.

Paolo expressed how positive he is at having Yen as his partner for the rest of his life. So will marriage take place between them? At the time, Paolo affirmed the idea of marriage. “Eventually, pupunta naman dun,” he said in an interview.

He added, “Marami pa akong dapat ayusin. Oo naman, bakit hindi?”
