WATCH: ‘Showtime’ turns into Vice Ganda ‘cult’ in hilarious TV moment

MANILA — An impromptu songwriting effort from a “Tawag ng Tanghalan” contestant snowballed into a hilarious TV moment where Vice Ganda suddenly became a figure of “worship,” complete with a theme song that even topped Twitter trends on Monday.

The contestant, Charline Mae Fiel, was asked to come up with a song on the spot for host and expectant mom Mariel Padilla, resulting in heartfelt lyrics about the changes that come with motherhood.

The vocal coach from Davao City then attempted to do the same for Vice Ganda, this time drawing from his “beauty.” Fiel’s choice of words resembled a praise song, the comedian joked.

“Ako ang sasagip sa mundo!” he quipped, before prompting the audience to sing along to his own take on the composition, titled and with the lone lyrics of “Ate Vice.”

With the audience members on their feet and swaying their hands, Vice Ganda approached a number of them to give them his “blessing,” and to exorcise negativity.

“Sabay-sabay, pati mga taga-GMA at mga taga-TV5!” Vice Ganda said.

Before long, the rest of the “It’s Showtime” hosts and the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” judges were singing, too, adding harmony to the looping lyrics.

As the “Ate Vice” moment aired on TV, the term immediately topped trending topics on Twitter, with viewers clamoring, in jest, for a streaming platform release of the song, as well as an accompanying music video.
