Marvin Agustin reunites with Jolina Magdangal for JP Habac movie under Project 8 

MANILA — (UPDATED) After 25 years, Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal are set to reunite for a movie entitled “Ex Ex Lovers” to be directed by JP Habac.

Actor-singer Juan Karlos and Loisa Andalio will also join the movie.

Also known as “MarJo,” the Agustin-Magdangal tandem was one of the popular loveteams during the ’90s. They starred in five films — “Flames: The Movie” (1997), “Labs Kita… Okey ka Lang?” (1998), “Kung Ayaw Mo Huwag Mo” (1998), “Hey Babe!” (1999) and “Gimik: The Reunion” (1999).

Speaking exclusively to ABS-CBN News during their look test, Agustin and Magdangal looked back at how this reunion project was formed.

“Finally talaga. Kasi years ang inabot, para matuloy na talaga,” said Magdangal.

Agustin candidly said, “Yung title ‘Ex Ex Lovers’ tulad ng totoo naming buhay. Mag-ex talaga kami,“ to which Magdangal answered with a big laugh and a big no.

The actress described this as a “dream project” considering that talks about the reunion movie started back 2018 with directors Dan Villegas and Tonet Jadaone.

“Hindi porke’t comeback, gumawa lang basta. Kaya inabot rin ng taon, kasi ang dami rin naming kinonsider,” she said. “It’s about ex lovers. Ako ang pakiramdam ko pag napanood nila ito, may kurot, kilig na mararamdaman sa puso.”

“I guess ‘yung mga vibes ng mga pelikulang nagawa namin dati, napaghahalo namin ‘yung drama saka comedy, masaya sila pero naiiyak. Parang ganun ‘yung mararamdaman nila while leaving the cinema,” Agustin said.

He also said that they owe this to their fans who waited so long and expected so many times for this project to get a green light.

“Nakakakaba kasi masyado na silang nag-eexpect. We really worked with sila Tonet and sila Dan, para ‘yung pelikulang matagal na nila hinihintay ay ‘yung tipong mag-e-enjoy talaga sila. Hindi lang ‘yung tandem namin ang magbabalik, pati ‘yung pakiramdam nung mga ’90s — ‘yun ‘yung saya namin kasi naiintindihan nila Tonet, ‘yung pakiramdam ng mga fans at mga taong nanood ng pelikula namin,” he added.

On Thursday, via a social media post Project 8, a Manila-based film production company, has confirmed Agustin and Magdangal’s comeback project.
