The MaThon love team, comprised of Maris Racal and Anthony Jennings, has been making waves both on and off-screen.
Despite their absence from the grand media day of ‘And the Breadwinner Is…’ on December 5, 2024, at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN, they remained a hot topic during the event.
Vice Ganda, the lead star of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry, addressed questions about the duo and expressed admiration for their on-screen chemistry and individual talents.
“Charming naman talaga sila,” Vice remarked. “Nag-work yung kanilang partnership dun sa mga una nilang mga seryes. Magaling talaga.”
The pair gained traction as a love team through their roles in ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’, which aired from October 2023 to May 2024. Their characters, Irene and Snoop, captured audiences with heart-fluttering moments that frequently went viral on social media.
Vice highlighted Maris’ versatility as an actress, describing her as “very talented.” The comedian recalled her journey from a teen housemate on Pinoy Big Brother: All In in 2014 to her breakout performances in daring projects like The Kangks Show (2021-2022) and Here Comes the Groom (2023).
Anthony also earned Vice’s praise for his natural screen presence. “Si Anthony Jennings din naman, hindi natin puwede i-deny na meron siyang kakaibang brilyo pag pinapanood niyo siya sa screen,” Vice said.
The decision to include Maris and Anthony in ‘And the Breadwinner Is…’ reportedly came from ABS-CBN management, a move Vice supported wholeheartedly. “When management suggested their inclusion, I immediately said, ‘Let’s go,’” he shared.
The pair’s absence from the media event coincided with a controversy involving allegations of cheating. Earlier this week, screenshots surfaced suggesting that Anthony had been exchanging sweet messages with Maris while still in a relationship with Jam Villanueva.
Both Maris and Anthony addressed the issue in separate interviews on December 6. Maris claimed she was unaware of Anthony’s relationship status at the time, while Anthony issued a public apology to both Maris and Jam, taking responsibility for his actions.
