For this year’s MMFF, Vice Ganda goes serious for a moment and during the Gabi Ng Parangal, he was awarded the

Special Jury Citation from the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is an award given to Vice Ganda which is for his performance in “And The Breadwinner Is” recognizing the effort of getting out of his comfort zone. Such growth as an artist was honored as well as how the movie tackled issues relevant to contemporary society.

The superstar comedian admitted he didn’t know the award which was then explained to him. Upon knowing the value of the award from the MMFF 2024 Gabi Ng Parangal, he expressed his gratitude to the organization and quipped, “Finally, I am seen.”

He has joined the film festival several times and this year, when he finally decided to transition to drama, his efforts were recognized.

In his speech, he dedicated his award to his workmates and specially mentioned Eugene Domingo, Gladys Reyes, Malou Guzman, and Maris Racal. He also thanked their director Jun Lana and dedicated his award to ABS-CBN, his mother, and his partner Ion Perez.

“Binigyan mo ako ng ganitong pagkakataong gumanap sa isang karakter na hindi lang magpapatawa, hindi lang mang-aaliw sa mga manonood, kundi tutusok sa mga puso at kaluluwa ng makakakita dito, at makakapagbigay ng maraming realizations at maraming-maraming aral sa makakatunghay ng pelikulang ito. Maraming-maraming salamat sa paggabay mo,” he expressed on stage.

Meanwhile, the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal was held on Friday, December 27, at the Solaire Grand Ballroom in Parañaque City. This year’s official entries are And the Breadwinner Is…, Green Bones, Isang Himala, The Kingdom, Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital, Espantaho, Hold Me Close, My Future You, Topakk, and Uninvited.
