Fans were left stunned after Riccardo Calafiori avoided a red card during the 4-2 win for Arsenal over Leicester.

The Foxes had come back from 2-0 down in what was a stunning second half display at the Emirates Stadium.

Gabriel Martinelli had given Arsenal a first half lead, before assisting Jurrien Timber to score his first Gunners goal before half-time.

But any thoughts the Gunners might have had of overhauling Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table disappeared after the break.

Brighton loanee Facundo Buonanotte pulled one back for Steve Cooper’s side, before full-back James Justin scored a stunning half volley with the outside of his foot to make it 2-2.

But Arsenal pushed players forward in search of a winner, and dramatically found it during the fourth of seven minutes of injury time through Leandro Trossard – although this was later corrected to a Wilfried Ndidi own goal.

Kai Havertz then made it 4-2 to the Gunners on 99 minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

But fans thought Arsenal should have been playing against 10 men after seeing a tackle from Calafiori.

The full-back produced a late challenge on Buonanotte, having already been booked earlier in the contest.

 

The offence, however, was not deemed worthy of a second yellow card on the field, while VAR did not deem it to be a sole red card offence.
