Sass Rogando Sasot questions ABS-CBN for allowing 30-year-old Coco Martin paired with 17-year-old Julia Montes.

Following actor-director Coco Martin’s announcement about his connection with actress Julia Montes, an international relations expert questioned why ABS-CBN, one of the Philippines’ largest television networks, allowed a 17-year-old actress to be matched with a 30-year-old male.

Coco Martin and Julia Montes created a loveteam for their teleserye Walang Hanggan in 2012. Coco’s most recent disclosure regarding his relationship with Julia prompted a social media debate.

Many questioned if the actor was correct to express interest in the actress when she was only 13 years old and then date her three years later. The actor was even labeled a “groomer” by the online community.

Meanwhile, according to Sass Rogando Sasot, Coco should not only face backlash from netizens, but also from ABS-CBN for allowing it. She emphasized that the Julia-Coco love combination was developed by ABS-CBN when Julia was still a minor and Coco was 13 years older than Julia. Julia was 17 at the time, and Coco was 30.

“It was ABS-CBN that formed the Julia-Coco love team when Julia was still a minor and Coco was 13 years older than Julia. Julia was 17 and Coco was 30 at that time. If Coco groomed Julia, so did our laws, so did ABS-CBN as it was the one who partnered a minor to an adult a decade or so older than her.” Sass said in her post.

While taping the episode, Coco referred to Julia as a “parang baby” and “masarap alagaan.” It should be noted that speculations involving Coco and Julia have been circulating for quite some time.

However, for the longest time, the Kapamilya actors have refused to reveal the true nature of their connection. Rumors became louder in the midst of their quiet. They were said to already have a child, and the most recent story claimed that Julia became pregnant again.
