Congressman alarmed by VP Sara: `What a child to threaten’
A lawmaker urged Vice President Sara Duterte to act like an “educated adult” and not act like a child, and directly address the confidential fund issues.

“It’s very disturbing to see the second highest official of the country resorting to petty threats, childish threats. Can she not make sense of the P125 million confidential funds that she must have enjoyed for spending it in just 11 days?” said House Deputy Majority Leader and Tingog Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre.

He said the issues facing Duterte are very serious and need to be explained to the public because the funds come from the public treasury paid for by Filipinos through taxes.

According to Acidre, Filipinos should be shown respect by answering the issue.

The congressman said that what Duterte is doing is no different from government officials who “feel entitled.”

Meanwhile, Zambales Rep. Jay Khonghun and La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega challenged Duterte to stop the slander and directly address questions on the use of his confidential funds.

“Enough of the slander and embezzlement. The public is waiting for a clear answer regarding your unexplained use of confidential funds,” Khonghun said.

Khonghun said military officials who attended the hearing of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability denied that they received confidential funds from the Department of Education (DepEd) in 2023 under Duterte’s leadership.

Duterte allegedly submitted to the Commission on Audit the certification issued by the soldiers to justify his use of P15 million confidential funds as a reward for informants.

Military officials said that the certification they issued was to prove that the Youth Leadership Summits were conducted but the funds allegedly used for this came from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and participating local governments.

“Please answer, Madam VP Sara: Did you cheat the military or not? It is also important for the public to know where the P15 million that the DepEd allegedly used for the YLS under your leadership went, which the military vehemently denied,” Khonghun said.
